Ducktails - “Letter of Intent”
got to see this guy Ducktails* at ktru’s spring show back in 2011! it was just him, his guitar, some pedals and a drum machine.
this sounds amazing.
Though previous Ducktails records were largely solo records from Mondanile, Flower Lane was a more collaborative effort, as previously reported. Mondanile was backed by New Jersey band Big Troubles and joined by Oneohtrix Point Never’s Daniel Lopatin, Joel Ford of Ford & Lopatin/Airbird, Madeline Follin of Cults, Sam Mehran of Outer Limitz, Jessa Farkas of Future Shuttle, and others. The record also features a cover of ”Planet Phrom” by New Zealand artist Peter Gutteridge (of the Chills and the Clean).
this dude gets around. oh yeah, he’s also the guitarist for Real Estate.

I’m so bummed I missed that show. How was it? and what show are you going to next?
it was quite spectacular. first time seeing them and was worried they wouldn’t live up to my expectations but holy shit they rocked it. their touring drummer was spot on which was my biggest concern.
HoB is definitely my least favorite venue. the crowd was rowdy. people throwing beer cans and i shit you not- stage diving. wtfcmon guys, it’s beach house. houston crowds disappoint again.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m a big Ben Folds fan, and a slightly smaller Ben Folds Five fan. Tonight, my mom took me to see Ben Folds Five’s first tour in thirteen years. It was at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, which is my single favorite place to go see live music. Anyhoo, halfway through their set, Ben Folds stops playing and starts fidgeting and says:
“You might wonder why we’ve stopped right now, but I can’t wait anymore. I have been about to shit my pants all damn night because we have two amazing guests who are about to come out. We were driving through Missouri when we happened upon Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips and hometown favorite Ke$ha!!”
They came out and sang a song in character as Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn (respectively).
decided to scan the bf5 tag before i went to bed and holy shit i wasn’t expecting to see this! hahahah that is incredible. can’t wait to see a video of it
wow i’ve seen ben folds every. single. time. he has played in houston since 2005.

you don’t even know the love affair i had with whatever and ever amen in 9th grade. i had just taught myself piano and had gotten cheated on, i was bound to fall for ben. i simply did not care this album was already 7 years old. whatevs. let me enjoy my rockiano.
in 7 days i shall see him again only this time he’ll be playing along side robert sledge and darren jessee.
